It seems being a failing criminal and turning a new leaf is common with this identity. Introduced in Daughters of the Dragon #3 (2006) by Jimmy Palmiotti, Justin Gray, Khari Evans, Roger Gocking bought the Porcupine identity and suit from Roderick Kingsley, Hobgoblin, after the death of Alex Gentry. He was present during the trail of the Thinkerer where he was attacked by Colleen Wing and Misty Knight, when she was looking for information. During the Civil War, he was capture by the Thunderbolt and force to work with them to defeat the Grandmaster. During the Doomwar, he was sent to protect one of Doom’s outpost before being targeted by Dunphy’s Scourge. He was protected by Captain America. He would later join the Masters of Evil before going to a self-help group for villains who wanted to reform, Villains Anonymous.
Some time later he was forced to commit crime for a woman named Cat, who made him believe she had kidnapped his wife and daughter. He clashed with Spider-woman, Jessica Drew, who agreed to help him find his wife and child. However, it turned out that they weren’t kidnap as along with other families of villains, were actually running away from him, wanting to leave their life of crime. Understanding where they were coming from, Spider-woman agreed to not to call the authorities on them if they agreed to stop blackmailing their husband. Wanting to be a better father to his daughter, Roger asked to become Spider-woman’s sidekick.
Roger helped Jess during her pregnancy with baby Gerry, constantly telling her to take it easy and reminding her to look after herself. He would help her defeat a number of villains and would later become Gerry’s babysitter and a constant support for Jess. Hobgoblin would return and demanded his fee for the suit. Roger told him he had gone straight to which Hobgoblin and other franchise villains attacked Roger and stripe him of his suit. Hobgoblin threw a pumpkin and believed he had killed Roger. Believing he was dead, Jess went on a rampage against Hobgoblin empire but Roger had survive and helped Jess from the shadows. When he revealed he had survived, they kissed only for Hobgoblin to take Roger. Jess rescued him, with the help of Carol Danvers. They became a couple and he was going to propose but decided against it because she was too focus on her heroics. They would break up but remained close friends as Gerry would continue to babysit baby Gerry for Jess.
Possible Figures
- Which has the best chance of being made? – Either one of these work and they could even have the Spider-woman’s sidekick’s head as a swappable part.
- How can it be made? – The Punisher body with new arms and calves will do. They would need to make a new “cape/backpack” for the quills on the back. Like Gently, this could easily be slotted into a Avenger’s wave but since he has become a essential part of Spider-woman’s mythos, he could easily be slotted into a Spider-man wave.
