Give a new meaning to the phrase “Don’t feed the troll”. Introduced in Strange Tales #179 (1975) by Jim Starlin, Pip was a former prince that, after a night of drinking with some trolls, found himself transformed into a troll himself. His appearance and attitude caused him to be exiled from his planet. He traveled the universe, jumping from one seedy bar to the next, until the Magus issued an order to kill all of the trolls. Pip was captured and place on a ship to be executed when he met Adam Warlock. They became friends and Pip followed Adam in his quest to defeat the Magus. Pip’s mind was destroyed by Thanos but Adam saved him with the Soul Gem. After Thanos was defeated during the Infinity Gauntlet saga, Pip was given the Space Gem, where he gained the power to teleport across the universe at will, which he kept even when the Gem was taken from him.
Eventually, he fell into debt of Hela, but her brother Agamemnon gave him an amulet to hide his appearance as a human. He was sent to Earth to watch over Wolfsbane’s pregnancy and report to Agamemnon. However, Hela hired X-Factor Investigation to find Pip. They found him but realized their mistake and went to save him with the aid of Thor. He would join the team but left when Wolfsbane ran away to give birth to her child. In an effort to stop smoking (yes, really), he joined the Ravagers and began jumping from planet to planet to evade the Raiders. They settled on Ego where they were saved by the Asgardians of the Galaxy.
Possible Figures
- Which has the best chance of being made? – Pip is one of those characters that would be hard to safely make. I think the jacketed Bounty Hunter look is the safest bet, followed by ironically his original design. The Infinity Watch version has very little chance with the Ravager version having a slightly bigger chance of being me.
- How can it be made? – I know what all of you are thinking, “Why haven’t they just used the Puck figure as a base?” and normally I would agree with you. But because of his body type is slightly taller and his torso is…. well…. dad bod I suppose you could say. As such if Hasbro were to make him, I can only see him being a new one-off sculpt. As for how they will release him, I can see him being slotted into a GOTG wave, a 2-pack with Adam or Gamora or some sort of SDCC box set with Infinity Watch.
