He is the black sheep of the family…. which is ironic considering the costume. Introduced in Western Gunfighters (Vol. 2) #6 (1971) by Len Wein and Dick Ayers, Lincoln is the brother of the original Ghost/Phantom Rider, Carter Slade. A law marshal, he was investigating some kidnappings when he ran into his brother. Tracking down the kidnappers, a fight broke out, which saw some rocks fall. Phantom Rider pushed Lincoln out of the way. Lincoln pulled Carter out from under the rocks and pulled off his mask to discover that the Rider was indeed his brother. Carter would soon died in Lincoln’s arm and Lincoln took his brother’s costume to become the next Phantom Rider.
Lincoln would continue to fight with other Wild West heroes but an encounter with a time traveling WCA would change his life forwards. He came to believe that Mockingbird was a goddess and kidnapped her. Using drugs and a potion, Lincoln made Bobby forget her old life and fall in love with him. After weeks under his influence (where it had been implied that she was raped by him), she broke free from his influence and chased him down. They fought near a cliff edge, where Lincoln slipped of. He grabbed onto the edge and was slipping, calling out to Bobby to save him. However, she just stood there and watched him fall to his death.
Back in the present his descendant, Hamilton Slade, went searching for his ancestor’s legacy. He fought the costume and was processed by Lincoln. Lincoln began controlling Hamilton’s body when he was Phantom Rider, with Hamilton having no memories of the adventures. He would join with the Rangers and would later encounter the WCA again, with Mockingbird again. He began stalking her again, revealing what had happened on that mountain, which cause Hawkeye to break up with her and forcing him to kick her out of the team because of the No Killing rule the Avengers have. With the aid of Daimon Hellstrom and Hamilton himself, Mockingbird tried to exorcise Lincoln, only to discovered that Carter was also possessing Hamilton. Carter helped defeat his brother, ready to go to hell with him until Hamilton save him. Lincoln would later possessed Hamilton’s daughter, Jaime, but she was saved by Mockingbird, Hawkeye and her father, who would die saving her.

- Background:
- Like his brother and Hamilton, Lincoln would wear the same costume, which is said to given them their powers.
- Why do you need it for your collection?
- While you could easily set this in a Western Heroes collections, if you are using it as Lincoln, then it would have to be placed in a Hawkeye/Mockingbird/WCA villains shelf.
- Does it need a remake?
- No.
