This Canadian superhero made history for not only being the first openly gay superhero, but also for the first to get married to his lover, which was even on the cover of the issue. Introduced in X-Men #120 by Chris Claremont and John Byrne, Jean-Paul was separated from his sister as baby after their parents were killed in a car crash. He would eventually train for the Olympics as a skier. Because he was using his powers, he was approached by James Hudson, who told him about his sister and asked him to join Alpha Flight. He would take the name Northstar. He would be one of the members to attack the X-men to capture Wolverine. He would remain with the team for a while but his abrasive nature caused him to leave the team a few times.

Skipping a bit, Northstar would eventually adopted a young girl, who was HIV positive. (This was during the time where there was a scare of AIDs and Homosexuality was blamed for it). The child soon died and Northstar used this to come out as being gay to the media. He would eventually write an auto-biography about his life and coming out and was approached by Jean Grey to join the X-men to rescue Xavier from Genosha. Though he left the team after that, he was invited to join the X-men school as a teacher. He began mentoring the Alpha Squadron but was later killed by a brainwashed Wolverine, only to be revived by the Hand to be their slave. He was eventually capture and sent to SHIELD to deprogram. However, he was kidnapped and controlled by the Children of the Vault.

He eventually regained his mind and rejoined the X-men. Around this time he began a new Extreme Sport company with his sister and met and fell in live with Kyle Jinadu. He would remain with the X-men for a while until the Chaos War saw the Alpha Flight member return. He rejoined the team and he was soon married to Kyle, which was attend by the X-men and Alpha Flight, with his sister being his Best man. He would rejoin the X-men before Nate Grey warped the universe in the Age of X-man and would join many mutants in Krakoa.

As for figure, Northstar has a bit of an interesting history in the line. When Hasbro took over the line, they ran a poll in the now defunct Toy Fare magazine, which Northstar and his sister were choices in the poll. However, maybe due to the fact that most wanted them as a 2-pack rather then a single figure, they did not win. It would be many years until Hasbro announced not only the twins but also many other members of Alpha Flight as an Amazon exclusive box set.

Recommend Figure:  Hasbro Amazon Exclusive Marvel Legends Alpha Flight box set – Northstar with Aurora, Snowbird, Puck, Shaman and Vindicator

  • Background:
    • This is Northstar as he first appeared. This would become his standard costume that he would were for many many years. The costume is based on not only the Canadian Maple leaf but also stars and aurora. It should be noted that the white pattern on his side has jump to the other side a number of times or has not been there at all.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • This one is obviously need to an Alpha Flight set. It can also be used for a Wolverine and X-men, either as a member or a villain set as well. If you want to have a history making character, then you can pick it up for that as he is the most famous gay character in comics. If none of that interest you, then skip
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No.

Needs

Below you will find a gallery of suits that still need to be made. I have included what I think are the possibilities of them being made. Note that these are my personal opinions and not facts. Please let me know if I have missed anything.
