Yes, this basically was a way to bring the Ultimate/MCU Nick Fury into the comics. Introduced in Battle Scars #1 (2011) by Cullen Bunn, Christopher Yost, Matt Fraction and Scot Eaton, Nick Fury Jr. is the son of former SHIELD director, Nick Fury and Nia Jones, who met when they were both members of the CIA. Fearing that Nia and their child safety, Nick Sr. made Nia move to Atlanta, where she took the surname Johnson. She gave birth to their child, who she named Marcus, which grew up not knowing her mother’s previous life. He grew up believing his father had died. He would join the army and serve alongside his best friend Phil Coulson.
His identity was eventually uncovered by Spymaster who gave the info to Orion, a former enemy of Nick Sr. When Marcus was on a tour in Afghanistan, Orion had his mother killed. Marcus returned for her funeral and was attacked by Taskmaster. He was rescued by Cap and SHIELD, who took him into witness protection. He escaped and sought Coulson’s help. Sr., in the guise of Scorpio, took Marcus into hiding and told Marcus the truth of his origins. However, they were both captured by Orion, who in order to taunt Sr. have Marcus’ eye gouged out. Marcus escaped and with the aid of the Avengers and SHIELD, defeated Orion and got revenge for his mother’s murder. With the encouragement of his father and learning of his real name, he joined SHIELD alongside Coulson. He quickly rose through the ranks, becoming the second-in-command of both Daisy Johnson and Maria Hill, as well as leading a new team of Secret Avengers.
He later went undercover as a member of Hydra and was attacked by extremist SHIELD agents. He went underground to undercover the rogue group in the organization in the agency. He eventually found out that this rogue group was being led by an LMD version of his father. He would bring this organization down and return to SHIELD until it was dissolved during Secret Empire. He went solo after that, preventing Nighthawk from getting the Infinity Stone, particularly the Reality Stone that had taken the form of the hero Star.
Nick Fury Jr. has been a character that many have asked for a while, usually as a swappable head with either Commander Rogers or Nick Fury (the white one). He would eventually receive a figure as part of the SHIELD 3-pack with Dum Dum Dugan and Sharon Carter.
