At least she is nicer than her cousin. Introduced in Sub-Mariner #50 (1972) by Bill Everett, Namorita is the daughter of Namora, cousin to Namor. Unbeknownst to Namora’s husband, she was impregnated with a generic copy of herself. Talan would raise the child as his own along with Namora until his death when Namorita was three. Namora and her child moved to Lumaria, where Namora was poisoned by Llyra, who assumed the throne and took Namorita under her wing. Namorita suspected that Llyra was responsible for her mother “death”. She was later reunited with her cousin Namor, who placed her under the care of his friend, Betty Prentiss, which allowed her to attend high school and college.

While at college, she happened upon a resurrected Terrax and worked with other young heroes to defeat him. After the fight they formed the New Warriors. While a member of the team, she would bring up environmental issues and would later join Namor’s Oracle Inc. After Night Thrasher left the team, she would take the place as leader. However, during her leadership, she had to deal with hardship which led to the team getting in the middle of two wars, a civil war, and a gang war. This caused her emotional distress, and she left the team to return to Atlantis. It was later revealed that her stress was being caused by her body undergoing a mutation, turning her skin blue similar to the rest of Atlanteans. She would begin dating Nova and became roommates with Justice, after he was released from prison.

Along with the rest of the New Warriors, she was captured by Undertow, who wanted to brainwash the NW to be part of the Soldiers of Fortune. Nova and the new members of the team rescued them, but they failed to rescue Namorita, who was brainwashed. Night Thrasher and Rage saved her, and rejoined the team and continued her relationship with Nova. However, while her body was undergoing another change, she would break up with Nova and begin a relationship with Human Torch, but they would soon break up as well. She would later become part of the NW team as part of a reality show. During one of their missions, the team planned to televise their capture of Cobalt Man, Speedfreek, Coldheart, and Nitro in Stamford. Nitro fled and she would pursue him onto a school bus. Nitro would explode with his powers, killing thousands, including Namorita.

She was “resurrected” when a group of heroes were pulled into the past by the Sphinx. The time-displace heroes defeated Sphinx and they all went back to their respective times, except Nova who refused to allow Namorita to die in her future, pulling her into his present. She would stay with Nova until she was kidnapped by the Revengers of the Cancerverse and taken to that universe. She was saved by Nova and Star-Lord, who remained behind to prevent the Cancerverse from invading their universe. She was heartbroken and would disappear soon after until she was seen fighting alongside the New Warriors again.

Because of her status as a founding member of the New Warriors, Namorita has been requested by fans for years. She would receive a figure as part of the Avengers’ Void wave.
