She hold the record for being the first Muslim superhero to headline her own comic. (Not the first Muslim hero though). Introduced in Captain Marvel Vol 7 #14 as a random character and later fully as a character in All-New Marvel NOW! Point One #1.NOW by Sana Amanat, Stephen Wacker, G. Willow Wilson and Adrian Alphona, the young Kamala Khan is a big fan of superheroes, particularly Carol Danvers. One night after being teased at a party, Kamala was walking home when she was blanketed by the Terrigen Mist after a bomb was ignited over New Jersey. While in the cocoon, she envisioned Captain America, Iron Man and Carol Danver’s Captain Marvel, who offer her the choice of becoming like one of them. She choose to become like Captain Marvel and emerged from the cocoon with new Inhuman powers and a costume similar to Danver’s Ms. Marvel/Warbird costume. When one of her bullies nearly drowned, she transformed inot her iconic costume and saved him. She then took on the name Ms. Marvel, one of Danver’s old identities.

Afterward she would use her powers to protect her city, teaming up with many heroes including her idol Captain Marvel. She would also be approached and trained by Medusa of the Inhumans. During the Incursion she told her mother that she was a hero, but was surprised to learn that her mother knew already. After the Secret War, she joined up with the All-New, All-Different Avengers and began a close friendship with the other 2 young members, Mile Morales (Spider-man) and Sam Alexander (Nova). The team would stay together for a while but the three young heroes began to question the Avengers methods after the second Civil War. While Nova and Miles quit the team right after, Kamala remained with it until she couldn’t take the constant destruction that the Avengers cause and quit.

She went to Nova and Miles to tell them and the three decided to form their own team. They recruited Amadeus Cho’s Hulk and Vivian Vision. After they rescued some people from being trafficed, the media began to call them the Champions, with Kamala becoming the team unofficial leader. The team would work together with Black Widow in order to take down the evil Captain America and afterwards would recruit more young heroes into the team. After she was injured in an adventure, the government enforced a new law, dubbed Kamala’s Law, that required heroes to be over 21 to be a hero. Kamala still worked to help people despite the law being enforced.

Despite what some people say, Kamala Khan is an extremely popular character. Outside of comics, she has been in cartoons, video games and is having a Live action Disney+ series being made. So it would have come as no surprise that she has a Marvel Legends made not long after her debut.

Classic

Recommend Figure:  Hasbro Marvel Legends Spider-man Sandman wave – Ms. Marvel

  • Background:
    • Soon after she recieved her powers, she discovered that her powers allow her to transform into this costume. It was never explained why it was this design but it is heavily influenced by both Carol Danver’s early Ms Marvel costume and Mar-vell’s classic costume with some Muslim items like the bands on the arms and the scarf.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • Kamala can be used for multiple collections. She can be collected for a Inhumans, Avengers, Champions and Street Level Heroes. Also, she can be added to your Captain Marvel collection. If you got Mile Morales or Sam Alexander, then you should get this to go with them as they are considered the new “Young Trinity” of the Marvel Universe.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No.

    • In one of the latest Marvel Team-Up series, Spider-man teamed up with Ms. Marvel. In the typical storyline, this saw them swapping mind and bodies. To show this, they released a cover where they characters wore similar costume to the other person.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • Unless you have to have every characters and figure or are a huge Kamala Kahn or Spider-verse fan, then I would skip this. Get the subscription for the comic and not the figure.
