How did someone so creepy manage to have 3 daughters? Introduced in X-men #4 (1964) by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, not much is known about Mastermind’s  early life before he was recruited by Magneto into the original Brotherhood. Magneto had him change Polaris’ memories, making her believe that her parents died in a car crash and made her forget that she was Magneto’s daughter. As a member of the Brotherhood, he developed a crush on Scarlet Witch and began working against Magneto to take over the team. He would remain with the Brotherhood through out most of it’s original team.

He would eventually join the Hellfire Club, using his powers to appear as a more handsome version of himself. He wanted to enter the Inner Circle and used his powers to send illusions to Jean Grey in an effort to warp her mind and join the Club. He succeeded but was unaware that the Jean Grey he was using his powers on was the Phoenix. His powers instead turned Phoenix into the Dark Phoenix, who used her powers to break Mastermind’s illusions and sent him into a catatonic state. He got better and swore revenge against Jean Grey and the X-men. However, he would soon come in contact with the Legacy Virus. He made peace with Jean Grey and the X-men before passing. He was survived by his two daughters: the half-sisters Martinique Jason, the second Mastermind, Regan Wyngarde, known as Lady Mastermind and his alleged daughter Pixie. He would be revived by the Five but went to crime, teaming up with Arcade and Mr. Sinister.

As one of the original Brotherhood members, Mastermind has been requested by fans for years. With the release of the Hellfire Club set, it was only a matter of time before we got a version of him, this one being part of a Wolverine Box set.

Hellfire Club

Recommend Figure:  Hasbro Amazon Exclusive Marvel Legends Wolverine Box set – Jason Wyngarde with Wolverine, Omega Red, Callisto and Cyber

  • Background:
    • When Mastermind wanted to join the Inner Circle of the Hellfire Club, he took the name Jason Wyngarde and used his illusion power to make him seem like a handsome man. As a member of the Club he of course wore a Victorian design suit. However, the color he wore were purple, with this being a more modern version of it.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • If you got the Hellfire Club set, you will need this figure as a new member. If that doesn’t interest you, you can use it as a member of the Brotherhood or as a standard X-men villain.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No but repainted in the proper colors.

Needs

Below you will find a gallery of suits that still need to be made. I have included what I think are the possibilities of them being made. Note that these are my personal opinions and not fact. Please let me know if I have missed anything.
