He once had what for hands? Introduced in West Coast Avengers (Vol. 2) #4 (1985) by Steve Englehart and Al Milgrom, Martin Preston was once a successful Hollywood actor that crashed his sports car into a ravine. He was the approached by Mephisto who offered to save him. He did so by grafting demons onto his limbs and carving a star shaped hole in his chest. Mephisto lied and claimed that he could only recreate him partially and the remaining parts of Preston were shatter across five parts. (In truth, this was because Mephisto was shattered after a battle with Franklin Richards and was using Preston as a pawn.) He would clash with the WCA and the Rangers, where it was revealed that the Ranger member, Shooting Star, was really a demon. He wanted her help in finding the fragment but when she was no help, he fled. He would later clashed the Avengers again when they went with Tigra to the Cat People, who had one of his fragments. In his most famous arc, he would go onto reveal that the children that Scarlet Witch used magic to create were actually fragments of his soul. Absorbing the children, he would clash with the Avengers until Agatha Harkness and Jim Hammond returned with the final fragment and gave it to him. But as he absorbing it, he was replaced with Mephisto who revealed his plan.

Seemingly destroyed, he would later be found by Wiccan and Speed, squatting in home that Vision and Scarlet Witch once had. He was hiding from Mephisto manipulation and Scarlet Witch’s wrath and told the twins that they shouldn’t focus on their past but on their future. He would come under the care of Speed, who was watching him because of his magic, living in the same house. Despite his mind being confused, he would come to care for the boy and would protect Speed from mystic threats.
