The sad part is the painful bone protrusion isn’t the worst part of her origins. Introduced in Cable #15 (1994) by Jeph Loeb and David Brewer, Sarah was a young girl that was part of the Morlocks. When the Marauders invaded the Morlock tunnels and began slaughtering them, she was rescued by Gambit, long before he became an X-men. They happened upon Mikhail Rasputin, Colossus’s older brother, who took the surviving Morlock into his own dimension. In this dimension, time moves much faster then the main universe. Here, Sarah was raised by Callisto, who become a mother like figure for her. In order to join Gene Nation, Mikhail’s personal elite force, she climbed the hill to his citadel, killing many to reach the top.
Returning to the real world, she eventually led Gene Nation in a terrorist campaign against human. They were defeated by the X-men and Generation X. Marrow challenged Storm, the former Morlock leader, to a fight and threatened to activate a bomb that she had strapped to her heart if Storm didn’t yield or kill her. Storm tore out her heart….. Thanksfully, she had a second heart due to her mutation and survived. She was reunited with Callisto and continued her terrorist ways, including an attack on a Lily Cheney concert that brought her into a fight with Cable.
Callisto and Marrow eventually tried to attack Henry Gyrich for his involvement in Operation: Zero Tolerance but Callisto was injured by a Prime Sentinel. Callisto sent Marrow to seek aid from the X-men. She would eventually join the team and came under the mentorship of Wolverine, who taught her to deal with her anger and rage, as well as flirting with Cannonball. After an adventure in another dimension and while the team were in outer space, they were kidnapped by the Skrulls, and she was injured. Gambit escaped with her and managed to find a healing pod. She emerged from the pod with greater control over her powers and a new “prettier” look. Following the brief period when all mutant’s lost their powers thanks to High Evolutionary, Sarah left the team to try and live a normal life.
She was later brainwashed by a rogue SHIELD agent and sent to destroy LMD. With the help of Spider-man, she manage to escape by faking her death. She would later join Weapon X but quickly left when she learned of their anti-mutant agenda. She reformed Gene Nation to attack Weapon X, but all the team but her were slaughter by Agent Zero. Despite having the bones still protruding from her body, she eventually lost her power following M-Day. She became the face of the Morlocks and joined X-Cell, a group of depowered mutant who were searching for a way for their powers to return and believing that humans had cause this. Her powers would eventually returned and she would join Cable’s X-force team. She would eventually join Emma Frost’s Hellfire Club before joining the rest of Mutantkind on Krakoa. She would join Magik’s Dark Riders. During Fall of X, she was one of a handful of Mutants that didn’t end up in the White Hot Room but instead Vanaheim. They would help Thor and his allies battle the evil Saturyne before returning to Earth.
Marrow is more famous for being a member of the MVC roster then she is being part of the comics. Thus she has been request by those fans to add to that collections. She would receive a figure as part of the Nemesis/Genocide wave.
