You know….. maybe this guy has a right to hate Odin. Introduced in Thor #154 (1968) by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the being known as Mangog is the last of his race after it was slaughter by Odin and the Asgardians. It is unknown what they did to incur Odin’s wraith but Mangog was left with a burning hatred of the Asgardians and would stop at nothing to destroy them. He was imprisoned under Asgard for centuries before being released by Ulik. He would go on a rampage, being practically unstoppable. He would only be defeated due to his need for feeding on hatred and fear. If he had none of that, he would shrink down to nothing.

He would later work with a clone of Thanos to try and destroy the universe but he was stopped by Thor. Later, Thor, having obtained the Odinforce, dissolved him into nothingness again. He was later summoned to Earth again by Adam Mann, who was trying to summon his father instead. He was stopped by Thunderstrike who banished the demon away from Earth. Much later, after Jane Foster had become Thor, she took part in the Challenge of the Gods against the Shi’Ar god and goddess, who unleashed Mangog against her. Later he somehow ended up in old Asgard, where he battle War Thor, Volstagg with the Ultimate Thor’s hammer, and killed Thor’s goat Toothgnasher. They would battle, destroying most of Asgard until Mangog defeated War Thor who had turned back into Volstagg. He would continue to torture Volstagg to get info on the rest of the Asgardians, only for Malekith to teleport in and tell him where to find them.

Mangog went to Asgardia and began destroying it, despite the efforts of the warriors there, including Cul and the All-Mothers. He also began trashing Thor and Odin It took Jane Foster, who was near death because of her cancer, sacrificing her life by turning into Thor again to stop him. She was losing but tied the hammer to some chains and wrapped them around Mangog. Using the last of her strength, she flew Mangog to the sun and flung him into the star, seemingly destroying him and the hammer. But of course, he would return. After the hammer was reforged during the War of the Realm and later during the God Of Hammer’s arc, it was revealed that Mangog had merge with the God Tempest, the living storm that gave the hammer it’s power. In another battle, Thor had no choice but to destroy the hammer again by teleporting it to the forge that it and seemingly killing Mangog again.

Possible Figures

  • Which has the best chance of being made? – There is only one version of Mangog we want and that is the classic version. I only included the other one just to show some other looked for him. This has been drawn differently by different artists.
  • How can it be made? – Given that there is no body suitable for him and given the size of him, the only way to make this character is by an Made-to-order like Dragon Man, Sentinel ’97 and Apocalypse.
