She was introduced before the New Mutants were. Introduced in Marvel Team-Up #100 (1980) by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller, the Vietnam born mutant Xi’an fled the country with her family after the Communist took over. After her parent’s death, she would eventually arrive in the States, where her brother and Uncle were criminals. She refused to work with them and found employment and a place to stay with her younger siblings. Unfortunately, her uncle kidnapped the kids and force Xi’an to help him. She took over Spider-man’s mind and tried to attack the F4 but couldn’t go through with it. Spidey and the F4 agreed to help her find her siblings but when they found the base, her brother used his powers to take over the F4 and attack Spidey and Xi’an. Xi’an was forced to kill her brother to stop him.

Reed Richard recommended her to Charles Xavier and she went to train in his mansion. She would eventually be joined by other young mutants and would be assigned to lead them as the New Mutant, taking the codename Karma. Xavier also gave her a paying job as the School Secretary to support to siblings. She was later believed dead after she fake her death in an explosion, in order to work with her uncle. She would later become processed by Shadow King but was rescued by the New Mutants and Storm.  During the Mutant Massacre, Xi’an went to check on her siblings only to find them missing. She would leave the New Mutants to search for her siblings and would eventually began working for her uncle again in Madripoor.

She encountered Patch, Wolverine in design, and aided him in taking down her uncle’s criminal empire. She would later find her sibling who had been taken by Shinobi Shaw. She wouldn’t been seen in comic for quite a while but she would return to met her old teammates when they began X-Force. She went to college and graduated before going with Moonstar to begin teaching at the Xavier Institute with her siblings. She would confess to Moonstar to being gay and would lead 2 X-men training squads, the Paragon and Alpha Squardon. She would join her New Mutants teammates when Magik returned and would eventually lose her leg in a battle with Cameron Hodge. It was replaced with a cyborg leg. She would leave the team to take care of Face and would join Wolverine in his school after the Schism. She would eventually join other mutant in the destroyed Utopia to get away from the mutant war. She has since joined the other mutants on Krakoa.

Karma isn’t one of the New Mutants that many people have been asking for her herself but there was a big call for a New Mutants set with her head included. As such, Hasbro included her as part of a New Mutant set alongside Moonstar and Wolfsbane swappable parts.

X-men Squad New Mutants

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Walgreens’ Exclusive Marvel Legends New Mutants – Karma (with Moonstar and Wolfsbane swappable parts)

  • Background:
    • After Magik returned to the living, she warned that the world was in danger. Cannonball gained permission from Cyclops to form a new team of X-men sanctioned New Mutants. Karma would join the team. It was during this time that she lost her leg and gained a new robotic leg but she wore this costume beforehand.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • This is obviously needed for a New Mutants collection but also for a X-men.  She hasn’t been involved in many other teams besides that.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No.

Below you will find a gallery of suits that still need to be made. I have included what I think are the possibilities of them being made. Note that these are my personal opinions and not fact. Please let me know if I have missed anything.
