An encounter with a future version of himself led Vance down quite a different path. Introduced in Giant-Size Defenders #5 (1975) by Don Heck and Gerry Conway, Vance Astrovik was a normal kid until he encountered Major Victory, a future version of himself from the GOTG 3000 universe. This activated his mutant powers. Vance would run away from home and joined the circus and while there, he encoundtere the Thing who he aided in defeating Taskamaster. He would then take on the mantle of Marvel Boy and tried to apply for membership to the Avengers but was refused by Cap due to his age and inexperience.

However, he was then invited to join the New Warriors by Night Thrasher. As founding members, they were joined by Nova (Rider), Namorita and Firestar, who Vance would have a long relationship with. Vance’s father would find out about his father and began beating his son. Vance eventually lashed out killing his father. Vance’s turned himself into the police and was convicted of negligent homicide. Instead of trying to fight this conviction, Vance choose instead to serve his time in respect for the law in the Vault, even helping the Guardsmen prevent a massive breakout. After he was released, he decided it was time to mature and changed his codename to Justice. He would return to the New Warrior and took up the mantle of leadership. He also accepted a marriage proposal from Firestar.

After helping former teammate Rage and the Avengers fight Morgan Le Fay, the couple was invited to join the Avengers as reservists and later after several missions, full membership. After Ultron destroyed the country of Sakorvia, it was Vance that turned the tie against the robot when he researched all the time Ultron had approach and learnt of Antarctic Vibranium, which he brought to the Avengers and Hank Pym used to destroy Ultron. They would later infiltrate the Triune Understanding and tried to find evidence of the group’s criminal activities. After the Kang Dynasty war, they would leave the Avengers, but Vance would break up with Firestar when he realized she wasn’t committed to getting marriage.

After hunting down former teammate Hindsight when he exposed former New Warriors to the public after the Stamford explosion, he would join Cap’s side in Civil War. After Cap’s arrests, he was recruited to be the head of a youth outreach program for Camp Hammond. He would also begin a relationship with Ultra Girl. While investigating MVP, he discovered the truth about the Initiative and began recruiting other heroes to become Counter-Force. They would quit the Initiative and would later take the name of New Warrior to fight against Norman Osborn. After Osborn’s fall, he would join the Avengers Academy as an instructor until he would later reform the New Warriors.

Justice has been a fan favorite for years and has been asked for by fans for many years. He would receive a figure as part of a Void wave.
