Probably one of the few Punisher villains that actually stays alive. Introduced in Amazing Spider-Man #161 (1976) by Len Wein and Ross Andru, Billy Russo was once a mobster know for his handsome face until an encounter with Punisher left his entire face scarred. He swore revenge on Punisher and began a life long quest to kill the vigilante. Taking the name Jigsaw, he first battle Punisher, alongside Spider-man and Nightcrawler, when he tried to frame Punisher for murder.
He would continue to battle the Punisher for many years, each time the Punisher would leave him batter and near death. He would also work as a hitman for many mob bosses. At one point, after Punisher fake his death, Jigsaw became a version of the Punisher before being beaten by the real Punisher. At some point he was arrested and sent to the Raft before the major break out by Electro. He was stopped by the New Avengers. He would join Hood’s gang before being hired by Zemo and Mayor Kingpin to become part of a new team of Thunderbolts, tasked with hunting down Punisher. In order to appear on the side of the law, Jigsaw was outfitted with a new identity as Paladin.
As probably one of the few, if only, of Punishers villains that keep returning, Jigsaw is considered Punisher’s arch-nemesis. As such, when they did a Face-Off version of him (which saw a hero being packaged with their greatest foe), Punisher obviously came with Jigsaw.
Punisher
Recommend Figure: Toybiz Marvel Legends Face-Off 2-pack series 2 – Jigsaw with Punisher
- Background:
- Following the death of Punisher, who was sent to prison and “executed”, Jigsaw became enraged that someone else had kill his enemy. Thus he began wearing his own version of the Punisher suit and began hunting down all those involved with the Punishers death.
- Why you need it for your collection?:
- Punisher has very few villains you can put in his rogue gallery. Outside a couple of villains that are mostly from other collections, this is the only one available for Punisher alone. He is also needed for a Spider-man collection, as well as Daredevil and part of the Hood Gang and Mobsters.
- Does it need a remake?:
- Yes.
