Ikaris is not his real name. Introduced in Eternals #1 (1976) by Jack Kirby, the man who would be known as Ikarus was one of many Eternals created by the Celestials over one million years ago. Like many of the Eternals, he witnesses many events like the sinking of Atlantis. However, in the Ancient Greece, he would fall in love with a mortal woman. They would have a child, who they named Ikaris. His son loved flying with his father, so Makkari and Phastos helped Ikaris create a flight device. However, before he could instruct his son, he was called away to fight the Deviants. Gone for years, his wife became depressed and wanting to get his father back, the young Ikaris took the device to receive his father. However, since he wasn’t trained to use the device, he soared into the upper atmosphere and fainted with the lack of oxygen. He came crashing down to earth. His father returned to find his son buried. He took his son’s name as Ikaris.

Skipping to the modern age, Ikaris would help Black Bolt create a safe space for the city of Attilan in the Himalayas. He would fight the Deviant when the Celestial returned to Earth to judge it and was one of many heroes to be kidnapped by the Grandmaster for the Contest of Champions. He would later team up with the West Coast Avengers to prevent Ghaur from acquiring the essence of the Dreaming Celestial. Like the majority of the Eternals, he would have his memories wiped by Sprite and made to believe he was an ordinary man name, Ike Harris. When he was killed by Deviants, he reappeared near Olympia and regained his memories. He then began working to restore the other’s memories.

After a battle with the Red Hulk and later being brainwashed by Tanalth, he learnt the truth behind his race, that we were to cultivate humanity for the First host. This droves the Eternals mad, and they turned against each other, killing each other. Ikaris was the last one to left when Iron Man and Dr. Strange went to the Eternals to ask about the Dark Celestials and the Hordes. Ikaris died soon after but was later resurrected. He was the accused of the murder of Zuras, but he tracked down the real killed, Thanos. The Eternals would later learn the truth of their long life and constant resurrections, that they would sacrifice a human life in order for them to resurrect. This caused them to go to the Deviants and seek their help in becoming like them.

With the exception of maybe Sersi, Ikaris is probably the most recognizable member of the Eternals. As such out of the team, he is one of the more requested members of the team. he would receive his first ML figure as part of the Zabu wave.
