If it wasn’t for Marvel quick discussion, this guy would have been responsible for not one but 2 of Marvel’s most popular characters being nothing more then highly evolved animals. (Wolverine and Spider-woman). Introduced in Thor #134 (1966) by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Herbert Wyndham was a college student in Oxford during the 1920’s, who was inspired by Nathaniel Essex research on genetics. He begin researching human genetic manipulation causing him to be expelled from Oxford. He was joined by Johnathon Drew and created a citadel on top of Wundagore Mountain. He would help Drew saved his daughter, Jessica, from a deadly illness, which would result in her gaining Spider powers years later becoming the first Spider-woman. After the death of his wife, Drew left Wundagore Mountain, taking his daughter with her. Wyndham would then create an advance suit to protect himself.

Soon after, he would begin creating the New Men, highly evolved humanoid animals who would obey him with his assistant Mile Warren, the future villain Jackal. He also learnt that the mountain was the place that Chthon was sealed. At some point, the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver’s mother would find her way there and gave birth to the twins. Wyndham would experiment on the twins giving them superpowers before handing them over to a gypsy couple. After encountering many of Earth’s hero, he decided to move his city to an asteroid orbiting on the opposite side of the sun from Earth. He used his technology to create a perfect copy of Earth, which would become known as Counter-Earth. He also obtain the cocoon of Him, who he rechristened Adam Warlock and even gave him the Soul gem. The Counter-Earth was eventually discovered when the F4 went to aid the planet against Galactus.

He returned to Earth and tried to force humanity to evolve further during the Evolutionary War but was stopped by the Avengers. He would eventually come into conflict with Exodus and the Acolytes and fled to the Savage Land. He would become infatuated with Shanna but realised that she was in love with her husband Ka-Zar and left the Savage Land. He later was tricked into depowering all of the worlds mutants by Mr. Sinister, in order for Sinister to use his tech for his own purposed. They of course were stopped by the depowered X-men. He would later aided Adam Warlock in his battle against the Phalanx. He would later be tricked by Zuras of the Eternals to create a Gene bomb but was stopped by the New Warriors.

After the Maximoff twins learnt that they weren’t Magneto’s children (at least for now), they took the Avenger Unity Squad to find out the answered from him. They learnt that he had gone insane and would cleanse his New Men if he found they had a flaw in them. They worked together with the survivors to defeat him. He would later work with the Maker, the ultimate universe form of Reed Richards but was defeated by the Ultimate and their ultimate counterparts. He would later try and crash Counter-Earth into Earth. He was defeated by the Avengers and Champions but not before turning Viv Vision into a human. He later stopped Kraven from hunted his New Men and created a number of clones for the Hunter.

High Evolutionary is a character that has battled many heroes over the years. While he has gotten statues and figurines, he has never gotten an action figure. (Hell even Minimates never did him.) However that would solved when Hasbro made him part of their Marvel Legends Fantastic Four vintage inspired wave.
