A rich brat became…. well, still a brat but a lovable one. Introduced in New Mutants (Vol. 2) #2 (2003) by Nunzio DeFilippis, Christina Weir and Keron Grant, Julian Keller was the son of a wealthy family. When his powers emerged, his parents supported him but when he began using them in public, he was shipped off to Xavier’s school. Originally under the tutelage of Northstar, his constant punishment cause Emma Frost to take him under her wing. Pretty much a bully in the school, he would show great talent with his powers and took on the codename Hellion, in honor of his teacher Emma. He was made squad leader of the Hellions and became romantically interested in Sofia Mantega (Wind Dancer). One a trip to his parents, his behavior caused them to disown him. Seeking fame and glory, he approached Kingmaker, who agreed to grant his wish if he helped him. He agreed but turned on Kingmaker and handed over to SHIELD.

After M-Day, Julian retained his powers but was devastated that Sofia lost hers and left without a word. When the remaining students had a trail by combat, Emma asked Hellion to take out X-23 but instead he saved her. As punishment, when the new training squad was form, Emma made Hellion’s hated rival, Surge, as team leader. He would continue to clash with Surge but eventually she earn his respect. He went through many adventure, like being trapped in Limbo and fighting the Purifiers during the Messiah Complex. After an injury, he woke up in a hotel room where Emma informed him that the X-men were no more. After she put him back to sleep, he awoke and tried to return home to find that his parents were gone. He then went in search of Magneto wanting to join his cause but Magneto refused him because he knew the boy was hurting. He was later kidnapped and turned into a weapon by the Leper Queen and the Sapien League but he was saved by the X-force.

When mutant kind moved to San Fransico, he nearly began a riot with some anti-mutant protestors but was arrested by the Dark X-men, being taken out by Emma. He was rescued by the X-force alongside Emma and Namor who had betrayed Norman Osborn. During a battle with some Nimrods, Jullian lost both his hands. He would eventually gain mechanical hands but he had a fit of rage because he believed the X-men could have restored his hand if they wanted. (They couldn’t.) He was eventually kicked of the X-men because of his attitude. His friends soon began to ignore him. He choose to leave with Wolverine after the Schism arc, where he became a student in Jean Grey’s School. He was place in the special class under Spider-man where he began a relationship with Shark Girl.

He was one of many mutant to get M-pox from the Terrigen Cloud. In fit of rage, he went to New Attilan and was going to make his power go out of control. He was stop by Synapse and taken in by Medusa, who had her medics cure him of the M-pox. He eventually went to Krakoa with the rest of mutantkind and underwent a trail by combat to die and be resurrected in a new body with his hands restored. He was also reunited with Sofia, who was also resurrected with her powers. When Krakoa was destroyed by Orchis, he teamed up with Empath and the Cuckoo to get revenge against the human who cause it. Taking the name Krakoan, he began commiting terrorist act and claiming to have killed 6 people until he was arrested by Prodigy. X-23 tried to rescued him but wouldn’t release him until he told her where the bodies were buried. He confessed he didn’t kill anyone and they were just in hiding.
