When Vance Astro finally arrive at his destination after centuries of suspended animation, he must led a group of heroes to free galaxy. Introduced in Marvel Super-Heroes #18 (1968) by Arnold Drake and Gene Colan, in this universe the majority had been taken over by the Badoon. Humanity, who had branched off into other race to adapt to their home planets, as well as many alien races, were enslaved to serve the Badoon. Vance Astro, an astronaut who had been sent out to be the first to arrive in nearest star system and was place in suspended animation, crashed landed on Centauri-IV where he learnt that he was too late and humanity had already journeyed out teamselves. None the less, he met and befriend Yondu. Both were capture and sent to a slave colony, where they encountered Charlie-27 and Martinex. Working together, they escaped and began a campaign to free the galaxy from the Badoon’s control. Finding Captain America shield, Vance led the team as Major Victory and they became The Guardians of the Galaxy.

In an effort to prevent the raise of the Badoon, they traveled back in time where they encountered the Defenders, who they recruited to help. Travelling to the Badoon’s homework, they met with the Sisterhood of the Badoon and encountered Starhawk. Working with the Sisterhood, Starhawk joined the team becoming a core member. After defeating the Badoon and freeing Earth, they couldn’t adapt to civilian life so they went exploring the stars. They would rescue Nikki, a weapon expert, who joined the team. After travelling back in time to help the Avengers with Korvac, they would met Starhawk’s “sister” Aleta, who would share the same body as his brother swapping when needed. (They would eventually separate.)

Those were the core members but later recruits included the Skrull Replica, who snuck into the because she admired the team. The Sorcerer Supreme of this universe, Krugarr, would aid the team against the Kree, healing Vance. He joined alongside his apprentice, the Inhuman Talon, would join the team. The Keeper, the Silver Surfer who was made Protector of the Universe, would aid the team from time to time. Around this time, Martinex had given up his role as leader of the team, forming his splitter group, Galactic Guardians. Along with Replica, he recruited Hollywood (an immortal Wonder man), Mainframe (Vision who had become the computing operating system of an entire planet), Firelord (the former Herald of Galactus), Phoenix (the current host being Giruad), and Spirit Of Vengeance (this universe’s Ghost Rider). A time-travel adventure found the team fighting against Doc Ock’s Master’s of Evil in Avengers mansion. Yellowjacket (DeMira) turned against the Masters and helped Guardians. When they went back to their time, she hitchhiked on their ship and joined the team. They would later recruit Cuchulian, the mythical Irish hero. In a recent story, it was revealed that Geena Drake is a member but her placement in the timeline is unknown.
