Okay, maybe kissing a guy whose electric powers were out of control was not a good idea. Introduced in Amazing Spider-Man (Vol. 3) #2 (2014) by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos, Francine was a super-villain fan and sometimes lover of Electro (Dillon). After Doc Ock, as Superior Spider-man, had messed with his powers and forced him to join the Superior Six, Max went to Francine’s to hide out. Even though he warned her, Francine tried to kiss him only for his powers to fry her to death.
However, she was revived by Jackal, Ben Reilly, as an incentive to get a now de-powered Max to join him. Jackal used a suit to try and give max back his powers, but the discharge went to Francine. Jackal theorized some of Max’s DNA was mixed into the clone body of Francine. Francine then kissed Max to absorb more of his powers, frying Max and killing him. She proved herself when Prowler reveal himself a spy and she seemingly killed him. Jackal gave Francine a new suit and she became Electro, taking Max’s place. She continued working for Jackal until his defeat. She was one of many clones that survived.
She would later join the Iron Spider’s (Aaron Davis) Sinister Six, in an attempt to steal a decommissioned Helicarrier, but they were stopped by Spider-man (Morales) and the Champions. She later teamed up with Boomerang with others to steal from the American Museum of Natural History, but it was later revealed that he was working for Kingpin, who was mayor of New York at the time. Boomerang handed over the loot to Kingpin and fled, leaving Francine and the rest behind. After an attempt of a solo career, she was arrested after trying to kidnap a stage actor. On the way to prison, she was rescued by the Syndicate, led by Beetle (Lincoln). They offer her a place with them, which she refused at first until they said they were going after the bounty on Boomerang. However, it was later revealed that Beetle was working for Kingpin. The Syndicate turned on her with the help of Boomerang but were arrested. Beetle later broke them out.
After Kingpin declared superheroes illegal in New York, Francine joined his Thunderbolts team to hunt down heroes as well as search for the Purple Children to boost Kingpin’s control of Purple Man’s power. When he used Purple Man to regain his memories of Daredevil’s true identity, he used the powers to send the Thunderbolts to riot in the streets. They were captured after Luke Cage was elected Mayor. She tried to escape but was stopped by a new Thunderbolts team led by Hawkeye. In an effort to get early release, she joined the Cape Killers and teamed up with Spider-man and Red Goblin to stop Carnage. She would rejoin the Syndicate and help Beetle and Beetle’s dad, Tombstone, in the Gang Wars. After the gang war, they began working for Tombstone. She has since been reunited with a revived Max Dillon, with the pair becoming a power couple……. sorry.
Since her introduction and taking over the Electro role, Francine has become quite a popular character. She would receive a figure as part of the fifth retro Spider-man wave.
