Bram Stoker based his book on the story that this vampire told him. Introduced in Suspense #7 (1951) by Gerry Conway and Gene Colan, Marvel’s version of the king of the vampire is pretty much the same as Stoker’s book. Born Vlad Tepes Dracul, he would rise in to rule over Kingdom of Wallachia until an encounter with Apocalypse left him injured. He was brought to some gypsies to heal but was instead turned into a vampire. He then rose to become the king of all vampires. He would either go into hiding, battle other heroes and vampires or aided heroes like in the WWII, siding with the allies.

He would reappear in modern days and would battle Dr. Strange. He would return and would be hunted down by many vampire hunters, including Blade. He would also battle the X-men even turning Storm into a vampire for a while. He would die a few times but would almost always return. In one particular event, he was revived by the X-men in order to get his help against his son. He would also set up an underground city under New York for monster. It was while he was ruling over this city that he sent Deadpool to bring Shiklah to him but after Dracula killed her brothers, Deadpool and Shiklah worked to oust Dracula. He would later return to stop Shiklah from destroying New York. He has since tricked the Avengers and Winter Guard into allowing him to set up a vampire nation in Chernobyl.

As probably the most famous horror character of all time, Marvel has used their version a great deal since the CCA lifted their ban on horror comics. He would eventually receive a Marvel Legends as part of the Toybiz Marvel Monsters box set.

Tomb of Dracula

Recommend Figure:  Toybiz Marvel Legends Monsters Box set –  Dracula with Frankenstein, Werewolf By Night and Zombie

  • Background:
    • When Marvel decided to introduce their own version of the king of vampires, they decided to use a more stereotype version that was seen in Universal Studios movies. He would wear a version for many years before changing to his armored look.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • If you have Blade, then you will need this for him to fight. Other than that you could use him for your Dr. Strange, X-men, Avengers and Horror / Magic collection. However, this was a hard to find box set. Out of all the figures in this box set, Dracula has the greatest chance of being made, more in his armored look. (Don’t want Universal lawyers on top of them).
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • Yes but maybe not this version.

Armored

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Fan Channel Exclusive Marvel Legends Strange Tales – Blackheart wave – Marvel’s Dracula

  • Background:
    • Probably in an effort to make their version distinct, Marvel began making Dracula wear this armor. This would become his signature look for most of his appearances since.
  • Why do you need it for your collection?
    • If you missed the box set or want a more distinct version of the Vampire Lord, I highly recommend you getting this figure, not only for your Blade/Monster display but for your X-men, Deadpool, Avengers and many many more.
  • Does it need a remake?
    • No.
