For a character that was only supposed to be a one-off villain, Deadpool sure proved popular enough to now be one of Marvel most famous heroes (both in and out of comics). First appearing in New Mutants #98 (1991) by Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza, Deadpool was originally hired by the arms dealer, Tolliver, to help fight the New Mutants. He was only supposed to appear in that story-line but he proved popular enough that he was given a mini-series, which saw him team up with Banshee and Siryn, who he developed a crush on. In the early years he was more broody than he is now. It was in his first ongoing series that DP truly developed his slapstick and sometimes extremely violent comedy that he is known for.

Deadpool is Wade Wilson, a small time merc who had been diagnosed with cancer. In order to cure it, he joined up with a faction of the Weapon Plus program, who were trying to recreate Wolverine’s healing factor. The treatment, however, caused Wilson’s skin to develop scars all over his body. Thinking that he was a failure, they sent him to a hospice called the Deadpool for all their failures. However, Wilson had developed a Healing Factor and escaped the Deadpool. He then went on to become a Mercenary, given the nickname “Merc with a Mouth”. Though he would usually work solo, mostly because most heroes can’t stand him, he has joined a number of teams, including X-force, Weapon X and the Uncanny Avengers.

For many many years, Deadpool had a problem even getting into stores. That was because at the time, his name was considered non-family friendly and most store wouldn’t carry him if he was made. During the 90’s and early 2000’s, any character that wasn’t PC friendly or had the name of dead, Death or some such, weren’t allowed to be said on TV (hence the reason Deathstroke was called Slade in the Teen Titans). As more adult toy lines become widespread and the TV matured quite a bit, Deadpool went on to become one of the most popular character. This was extremely boasted thanks to Ryan Reynold’s movie. Since then he has figures coming out through the nose.

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends Deadpool Sasquatch Wave Deadpool  OR Fan Channel Exclusive 80th Anniversary X-men X-Force Vintage Deadpool

• Background:
  • Right after Deadpool was introduced in New Mutants, he became so popular that Marvel had no choice but to give him his own solo series. This was the costume he wore in that which is a update version of First Appearance. The printing at the time still wasn’t the best so the black would sometime be dark blue.
•  Why you need it for your collection?:
  • If you like the Rob Liefeld version of Deadpool, then you could get this one. But, it doesn’t come with a BAF piece and has very few accessories though compare to the Juggernaut wave version. As for which one to get, it’s up to you. If you are a MOC collector then I recommend the Anniversary set as it comes on an awesome vintage card. If you are just after the figure, then the Sasquatch wave will do nicely but the Vintage has more weapons.

Udon series

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends Ultimate Riders Series Deadpool wit Dogpool and Squirrelpool

• Background:
  • When the artist Udon took over the role of Deadpool’s artist, he redesigned Deadpool into this version. The harness is the signature part of this costume as it also held Deadpool’s teleportion device.
•  Why you need it for your collection?:
  • If you have the 2-pack and are sick of Deadpool for 2018 (in a year of including this 5 Deadpool figures came out), then this can be skipped. However if you want Dogpool and Squirrelpool for your Deadpool corps, then you will have to get this.
• Does it need a remake?:
  • No.

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends Deadpool Strong Guy wave Deadpool

• Background:
  • When Cable was injured in a fight, Deadpool brought him to the X-men to be healed. Thinking that he could become a X-men, he designed this suit (based primarily Astonishing X-men Cyclops) and tried to join only to be rejected.
•  Why you need it for your collection?:
  • Unless you have to have every Deadpool, then I would suggest skip this one. While it was a variant figure in a 2-pack, unless you want an oversized Warpath, then I would suggest you get the Strong Guy wave one.
• Does it need a remake?:
  • No.

Utopia X-men Costume

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends Deadpool Sauron Wave X-men Deadpool

• Background:
  • Because of the above episode with the blue costume, Deadpool believed he was a member of the X-men. So when he arrived at Utopia, an artificial island off the coast of San Francisco, he was told to leave. In order to prove himself, he fought mutant hater in a costume based on the X-men training uniform with the help of Domino. He was more of a hindrance then a help, so Cyclops forced him to leave, but he did say that Deadpool had skills.
•  Why you need it for your collection?:
  • This is a nice fun figure for people who just collecting figures for the enjoyment. It is also a nice figure for people who love Deadpool or want to create a Spider-verse version of DP or their own Deadpool Corps. However, I will be the first to say that most people will probably skip this because it’s a short lived outfit.
• Does it need a remake?:
  • No.

Uncanny X-force

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends Deadpool Sasquatch Wave X-Force Deadpool

• Background:
  • After Hope Summer returned to the present, Cyclops decided to disband the X-force team. However, Wolverine believed that the team was needed so he recruit Deadpool to help. They all wore similar costumes of Black and White/Grey/Silver.
•  Why you need it for your collection?:
  • If you are collecting an Uncanny X-Force team, this will definitely needed. Do NOT try and get the Hascon exclusive. That figure is (or was) overly priced and comes with pretty much the same accessories as the Juggernaut wave version. Get the Sasquatch wave one as it is the exact same figure with less accessories.
• Does it need a remake?:
  • No. Been done twice.

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends X-men Juggernaut wave Deadpool

• Background:
  • Right after Osborn was brought down after Siege, Deadpool redesigned his costume in this costume. It is the costume he wore for his term in the Uncanny Avengers.
•  Why you need it for your collection?:
  • This is the most current version of Deadpool. It is (IMO) the best Deadpool out at the moment and comes with loads of accessories. If you don’t have a Deadpool of any kind then this should be your first one.
• Does it need a remake?:
  • No.

• Background:
  • Hey, even Deadpool needs to go home and relax.
•  Why you need it for your collection?:
  • A few months before this was reveal, there was a FIGMA (Japanese Import) that did this version as an exclusive. Hasbro obviously did this one because of that. If you don’t want pay for the expensive import, then this is a great substitute. However, it’s not important but a fun figure none the least.

  • No.

• Background:
  • If you believe Deadpool’s version of the first Secret Wars, he was actually the first person to wear the Venom symbiote before Spider-man. Years later, he was then rejoined with it and started wearing this. It is currently unknown if this is canon or not.
•  Why you need it for your collection?:
  • If you like Deadpool, Venom or are building up a Venomverse collection, then this is needed. Otherwise it can be skipped.
