You know, he may know every swear word in existence. Introduced in New Mutants #13 (1983) by Chris Claremont and Sal Buscema, Doug Ramsey wasn’t originally going to be a mutant. He was introduced as a sort of normal kid that would become friends with the New Mutants. He would become friends with Kitty Pryde after she joined the school and would later become friends with the New Mutants, who hide who they were from him. However, that all changed when Warlock, a member of the alien Technarch race, crashed landed near the mansion. Confused he battled the New Mutants, until they asked Doug to translate what he was saying, revealing his ability to to translate any language. Doug would calm Warlock down, beginning the alien’s lifelong friend. Doug, under the name Cypher, would joined the New Mutants, coming under Xavier’s tutelage. He formed a symbiotic with Warlock, with the later using his abilities to give Cypher armor. He would remain with the team, though briefly leaving to join the Hellion with the rest when Xavier left the students with Magneto. Doug lost his life when Ani-mator fired a gun at Wolfsbane and he jumped in front of her. His death would kill the innocence of the New Mutants.

He would later be resurrected by Eli Bard, and placed under the command of Selene. She sent him and the Hellions to infiltrate Utopia. He attacked Magma but was attacked by the reformed New Mutants. Warlock, with the aid of Magik’s sword, broke Selene’s control on Doug. He would rejoin the team, helping during the Messiah Complex, before being sent to the Uncanny X-force team to help them and Cable with a time travel mission. Like the rest of Mutantkind, he would eventually move to Krakoa, becoming a supporting member of the Quiet Council, with him helping translate Krakoa for them. He would later be chosen as one of the representations in the Sword of X, where he would marry Bei the Blood Moon. After the fall of Krakoa, Apocalypse made Doug his heir, taking the name Revelation.
