Introduced in Generation X #1 (1994) by Scott Lobdell and Chris Bachalo, Jonothon Starsmore mutant powers activated while on a date with his girlfriend, Gayle Edgerton, which left most of his chest and lower face disfigured and Gayle in a coma. He accepted an invitation from Xavier to join Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters but at the airport he was attacked by Emplate. He was rescued by Generation X and convinced Penance to follow him in joining the young mutant team. Gayle later kidnapped him, under Emplate’s order but she was buried alongside Chamber. They were rescued by Gen-X and the pair made peace with each other. He would later become involved with Husk but they later broke up. When the school was outed as a mutant school, it was attacked by Anti-Mutants haters leaving Synch dead and the team breaking up.

Chamber would be given an invite to join the X-men team, which he refused initially but would later join. He would leave the team but returned to the team only to find that Husk and Archangel were a couple. This led him to destroy a bar and be arrested by the police. While in prison, he was offered a place in Weapon X, which he joined as a mole for the X-men. When the Neverland prisoners rebelled, he helped many escape but as this was happening during M-Day, he lost his power which left him with a hole in his chest and jaw. He was kept alive by Beast but was taken by Clan Akkaba. who used Apocalypse blood to revive him. This made them find out that he was one of Apocalypse’s descendants. He was offered a place on Excalibur but refused as he was sick of the X-men.

He was going to commit suicide but was stopped by Night Thrasher, who offer him a place in the New Warriors. As Decibel, he was reunited with Jubilee, who had also lost her powers and now going by Wondra. After Age of X, he regained his power and original appearance and rejoined the X-men. He would join Wolverine’s side during Schism and became a teacher at Jean Grey’s school. He would help the X-men against Legion and became close with Jubilee and her adopted son Shogo. They would become a couple but after Nate Grey attack, she went missing and he began looking after Shogo. He would bring the child underground and became the protector of the Morlocks, who later came under attack by the Marauders. He would get revenge against the Marauders but was killed by Harpoon. He was revived by the Five of Krakoa and joined the New Mutants.

Chamber is one of the more popular members of Gen-X and has been requested by fans for a while. He would receive a figure as part of the X-men Ch’Od wave.
