Just because you don’t have legs, doesn’t mean you can’t kick ass. Introduced in Alpha Flight #1 (1983) by John Byrne, Roger Boch was unable to walk, having had his legs amputated below the knees. While he was trying to overcome this trauma, he was check into a clinic where he met Madison Jeffries. A brilliant inventor, Roger development a robot to act in his place, named Box. He would join the Department H as part of their Superhero program, where he met and befriend James Hudson, who helped him develop the cybernetic device that allowed Roger to control the Box robot better and transferring his mind into the robot. Roger would join Beta Flight, Alpha Flight’s training program.
He would later be recruited into the villainous Omega Flight by an android sent by Jerome Jaxon. However, Roger remained loyal to Hudson and only joined to infiltrate the team. Jaxon was suspicious so he stole the cybernetic helmet and used the Box robot to attack Alpha Flight, dying from the feedback when the Box robot was destroyed. Angry that his tech was used to hurt his friends, Roger worked with Madison to develop a new Box that would allow him to merge with it and not control it by the helmet. He would later allow Shaman to merge Walter Langkowski’s spirit to inhabit the Box armor for a while but when Walter got back his Sasquatch body, Roger would control the Box armor again, but this time as a full-time member of Alpha Flight.
He was later confined to the Box robot after his body was suffering from the bends after a deep sea adventure. Roger contacted Lionel, Madison’s brother, who could control organic matter. Lionel used his powers to restore his body, and making him younger and more attractive with his leg’s restored. However, because of the material he used, Roger went insane. Always attracted to Aurora, Roger would become very jealous whenever Aurora looked at another man. This caused him to attack Aurora but Madison used his powers to send Roger back into the Box armor. The Flight went to Lionel for help but he used his powers to merge Roger and himself into Omega. Persuasion was able to separate their mind but Lionel had lobotomised Boch to remain Omega. Omega was defeated by Madison, who had taken up a new Box armor but had to kill his brother and his friend.
