This being made Galactus his bitch. Introduced in Thor #169 (but fully in Silver Surfer: Black #4 and Thor (Vol. 6) #4) by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Donny Cates, Tradd Moore and Nic Klein, the being that is known as Black Winter was responsible for destroying the previous universe, the one that Galactus (then Galan) originated from. As the only survivor, Black Winter made Galactus his herald and disappeared. He would returned and took the form of Thor. He attacked Galactus who crashed landed near Yggdrasill. Galactus turned Thor into his Herald and sent him to find planets that could give him the powers to defeat the Black Winter. Meanwhile, the Black Winter devoured another universe.

He returned to the Prime Universe where he easily defeated Galactus and Thor. Admiring Thor’s strength, he took the form of Thor’s darkest fears, which turned out to be himself as an evil version. When Black Winter revealed that Galactus was his herald, a furious Thor drained Galactus’s power cosmic, leaving the World Devourer as a wounded husk. When Black Winter wanted Thor for himself, Thor turned the powers back at Black Winter. Black Winter seemed to have been destroyed but Uatu said that he is out there somewhere.

Being a fairly new….or rather a character that was further expanded upon, many people haven’t really heard about Black Winter. As you can see above, getting a full version of him would be impossible. The red figure near the bottom is Galactus so you can see his sear size. But we would get a figure of it when Hasbro revealed a Herald Thor repainted into a form he took during his storyline.

  • Background:
    • In order to both torment Galactus and fight Thor, Black Winter would take on an evil form of Thor to fight the pair.
  • Why do you need it for your collection?
    • Many people will just assume that this figure is just another form of Thor so they will skip it. However, if you do get it, you can use it in your Thor’s Villains shelf or with Galactus and his Heralds. On the Cosmic villains’ shelf might also be another idea.
  • Does it need a remake?
    • No.
