He was the Black Panther of WWII. Introduced in Fantastic Four Unlimited #1 (1993) by Jack Kirby, Roy Thomas and Herb Trimpe, T’Chanda, later known as Azzuri when he took the throne, was the grandfather of T’Challa and Shuri and father of their father, T’Chaka. He ruled the kingdom when Colonel Fritz Klaue of the Nazi went to Wakanda to regain Hilter’s favor. His plane crashed landed and he was the only survivor. He was nursed back to health by Azzuri. Azzuri thought Klaue about his kingdom and Klaue had him build a Panther Idol. When Klaue tried to make this idol a source of worship, the two fought, which led to the death of Azzuri’s wife. Azzuri would eventually defeat Klaue, who fled back to Nazi Germany.

Azzuri would later encounter Captain America, who, along with the Howling Commandoes, had journeyed to Wakanda after hearing reports of many soldiers vanishing in the region. They found the Nazi and other soldier’s head on a pike. Azzuri would refuse to talk to Cap, believing the Allies were just as bad as the Nazis. They fought but they earn each other’s respect during the fight. They would work together to repel the Red Skull, Baron Strucker and a number of other villains. After the war, he died with his son taking over the role of Black Panther.
