Even a gangster wants his daughter to earn her own way in life. Introduced in Captain America #607 (2010) by Ed Brubaker and Mitch Breitweiser, Janice Lincoln is the daughter of Tombstone and one of his earlier girlfriends. Janice grew up admiring her father and wanted to be a super-villain. After graduating from Law school and earning a reputation defending Super-villains, she was involved with Baron Zemo suing the Fixer for not providing him with a new henchman. She made them agree to allow her to become their new villain and was given a new Beetle suit. She used this to attack Bucky, who was Captain America at the time, infecting him with a techno-virus. They battled and she was sent to the Raft.

She was later freed and would join Boomerang’s Sinister Six team. Their first appearance saw them being defeated by the Superior Spider-man. While in prison, Boomerang was contacted by the Chameleon and hired him to receive the head of Silvermaine. Boomerang tricked the team into working on this task, but he was arrest and Beetle became the team leader. After they were defeated by Power Man and Iron Fist, Boomerang saved them and regained his leadership role. During an assault on the Owl’s base, they were captured but rescued by Beetle’s father Tombstone. The team would break up soon after a gang war that saw Shocker becoming the leader of the Mafia.

She would move to San Fransico and would sleep with Scott Lang. After helping rescue Cassie, she revealed that all she wanted was the Pym Particles and was the prostitution for the state after Lang was arrested but lost the case. When Kingpin put a bounty on Boomerang, Beetle broke into his apartment and encountered Randy Robertson. The two fell in love and began dating. After being one of the many animals themed people hunted by Kraven the Hunter, she would form the all-Female Sinister Syndicate and tried to capture Boomerang. When they trashed the FEAST center, Randy chastised her, and she used her influence to help rebuild the center. The couple were later kidnapped by Madame Masque and Crime Master but were saved by their fathers, Spider-man and the Syndicate. Despite their father being against their relationship, they moved in together.

This version of Beetle is famous for being part of the “Superior Foes of Spider-man” comic. Since that comic is a fan favorite, it comes as no surprise that her teammate and herself would receive figure, with Beetle receiving one in the Absorbing Man wave.

Beetle

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends Spider-man Absorbing Man wave – Superior Foes of Spider-man Beetle

  • Background:
    • Janice was a lawyer for Criminal law when she was approached to sit into a dispute with Zemo and the Fixer. Zemo wanted a new villain to attack Bucky Barnes, who had taken up the mantle of Captain America. He believed that it wasn’t right that he was being celebrated as a hero after being an assassin for many years. Fixer argued he needed money to create it and Janice volunteered to be the new villain. Since the Beetle identity was no longer in use, Fixer fitted her up with what is essentially a female version of the classic Beetle suit.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • If you are a fan of the Superior foes’ comic (which you really should read if you haven’t), then you will need this figure. It is also needed for the all-female Syndicate team, which Hasbro seems to be building. It will also be need if you want to have all versions of the Beetle as well as Spider-man and Cap’ rogues gallery.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No.
