It was the fans that gave her name. Introduced in Venom: Lethal Protector #4 (1993) by David Michelinie and Ron Lim, the symbiote that would become known as Agony was one of five symbiotes extracted from the Venom symbiote by the Life Foundations. It was bonded to Leslie Gesneria, a former security former for the Foundation. When Spider-man followed Scream, the team attack the Web head and nearly killed him until Eddy Brock re-bonded with the Venom symbiote and defeated them. They were believed killed in an explosion but would return to seek Brock’s aid in controlling the symbiotes. He would refuse and the others would attack him. Later, Gesneria was found dead by the others, having been killed by Scream. Scream would go onto killed the other hosts and believed the symbiotes dead. However, the symbiotes were gathered and taken to the vault, where they would eventually merge to become Hybrid.
They were eventually separated and given to the US Army to be used by the Mercury Team. Agony was bonded to James Murphy and the Mercury team was sent to stop Carnage taking over Doverton Colorado and its people. Agony and the rest were eventually abandoned but when Carnage went on a killing spree, Deadpool happened upon them, and they bonded with him to defeat their brother. After Carnage’s defeat, Deadpool bonded the four to a dog. When Knull awoke, the four became enthralled by him and the dog that they were bonded with was found by a family. Agony took over the mother. They were sent to kill Normie Osborn and Dylan Brock to gain Normie’s codex, but they were saved by Sleeper, Venom’s latest child. The symbiotes would merge again but were defeat by Spider-man and other heroes. When Knull invaded, they were sent to kill Dylan but were stopped by the new Scream, now bonded with Andi Benton. When Carnage took over the body of a US politician, he got his sibling to bond with people close to the politician, with Agony bonding with Gemma Shin. This pair was later seen as a member of the Thunderbolts that Mayor Fisk created as his personal attack force.
Agony and her sibling weren’t really big named characters until Hasbro started using them to fill out waves, with Lasher being the first. After that, fans began requesting Hasbro complete the team. Agony would get a figure as part of a Amazon Exclusive box set with Venom and Riot.

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Amazon Exclusive Marvel Legends Venom Box set – Agony with Venom and Riot
- Background:
- Based on a more modern coloring, Agony’s colors have never been a set color. This was due to the printers not being able to keep the same shade of colors the whole time. All in all, Agony is just a pink/purple version of her sibling Scream.
- Why you need it for your collection?:
- If you have gotten the rest of the Life Foundation Symbiotes, you will need this one as well. You will also need it to complete Venom’s family tree. Finally it could also be got to fill out Spider-man and Venom’s rogue’s gallery as well as the Thunderbolts.
- Does it need a remake?:
- No.
