I wonder if he got tangled in anything and had to unravel himself. Introduced in X-Men: Alpha #1 (1994) by Scott LobdellMark WaidRoger Cruz and Steve Epting, Abyss was an original character created for this universe. (He would get a 616 counterpart a few years later). Nothing is known about his origins beyond that he is the son of Azazel and half brother to Nightcrawler. He was said to have been experimented on by Sinister and would later escape to kill the Horseman, Bastion. Instead of punishing him, Apocalypse made him his new horseman, ruling over the southern part of America. He was later seen battling the X-men, when they try to help mutants escape to Europe. He instead wanted to capture Quicksilver so he tried to kidnap a small child to lure him but was stopped Storm and Quicksilver defeated him but forcing Abyss into the black hole in his chest.

He was later put in charge of the Madri as well as Shadow King’s interrogation of Bishop. The X-men were sent to rescue Bishop and a battle ensued with Abyss. After mocking Banshee, he used his powers to pull him into his body. However, Banshee used his powers to rip Abyss apart from the inside, destroying Abyss. He would later be revived by Dark Beast many years later when Hank was revive many mutants but Abyss only lived for a few minute before being killed by Fiend.

Possible Figures

  • Which has the best chance of being made? – This version of Abyss has had only one design for him, which is made up ribbon like limbs in the shape of a body.
  • How can it be made? – The problem with Abyss (either the AOA or Prime version) is that his body would be hard to make in an action figure form. The main and probably only way to do it is give him a banded body (similar to Mister Sinister or Colossus) and unique arms demonstrating his powers. Depending on the size they make him, he could be a regular size figure or a BAF/Deluxe. Either way, he would be part of a X-Wave.
