In the Noir universe, it wasn’t Frank Castle that became the Punisher. It was his son. Introduced in Punisher Noir #1 (2009) by Frank Tieri and Paul Azaceta, Frank Castelione Jr. is the son of the World War I veteran, Frank Castelione Sr.. After his mother died of cancer, Frank, an Italian-Jewish boy, would join child gangs during the Prohibition Era of America, much to his father disapproval. Later, a mobster, Dutch Shultz, when to the Castelione’s store to demand protection money but both father and son chased them off, earning Shultz hatred. After that, he was trained by Sr. to defend himself in case the mobsters came back. He would later leave the gang when they were about to steal from the church and insulted his Jewish heritege. Returning home, he found Sr. dead, having being killed by Shultz’s men. He swore revenge and became this universe’s Punisher.
He would began terrorising Shultz’s men, including bringing down the Noir Universe’s version of Jigsaw, Barracuda and the Russian. In order to hide his identity, he place his mask on the Russian and killed Shultz. The police believed that the Russian was Punisher and dropped the case. As he debated if he should continue his crusade against mobsters, he read a news paper, which was talking about Hilter and the Axis party. (Reminder, America wasn’t involved in the war yet and many American’s actually sided with the Nazi party). So the series ended with it suggesting that he joined the Army and went to fight in WWII to honor his father.
Possible Figures
- Which has the best chance of being made? – In this universe, Frank wore a black suit with a long trenchcoat. He would also wear a mask with a Skull on it.
- How can it be made? – This one is easy as all it requires is a suited body with a new masked head. But placing him is more difficult, mostly due to the fact that many Noir characters beyond Spider-man aren’t as well know. However, if they do make him, I could see him in a Punisher set or a Spider-man retro wave.
