Wendigo (Race, Marvel Prime)

~Wen~Di~Go!!!!!~

There is a legends in the Canadian wilderness that if a person consume human flesh they will turn into a savage beast known as the Wendigo. Introduced in Incredible Hulk #162 (1973) by Steve Englehart and Herb Trimpe, the Wendigo curse is a curse set upon humankind by the Elder Gods of Canadian myth. Once turned into a Wendigo, they have a hunger for human flesh and just like a werewolf can pass the curse onto other by biting the person.

The earliest Wendigo known, which was actually only introduced recently, was millions of years ago where he battle the ancient Ghost Rider of the Avengers BC. Going back to modern time, the next known Wendigo was Paul Cartier who first fought Hulk and was one of the first to fight Wolverine. Several individual have since came under the curse (alot of people must like human flesh) usually battle Hulk, Wolverine or Alpha Flight. It was later revealed that there was actually a tribe of Wendigo living in the Canadian outback, who fought and was savagely defeated by Red Hulk. This tribe somehow later found their way to Vagas where they battle a team of Avengers and even turned Hulk into Wendihulk.

Another Wendigo was eventually summoned by Tyrannus, along with other villains to fight Hulk again. Many human were turned into Wendigo by the Elder God to battle the Chaos King during the Chaos Wars. An intelligent Wendigo thought the Hellfire School and another fought Weapon X.

Since no 2 Wendigo are the same, except for the same basic design, all of the have had different versions over the years. Hasbro released a version of what most people think is the classic design in the Hulk’s Fin Fang Foom wave and later announced a BAF version for the X-Force wave.

Classic

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends Hulk Fin Fang Foom wave Wendigo

  • Background:
    • This is probably the most famous version of the Wendigo. It has been drawn differently over the years.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • While this is need for any Hulk and Wolverine collections and was great for it’s time, it was part of a limited wave and would fetch a pretty penny if found in box. Also I find this figure too small for the Wendigo. Plus the weird articulation hinders the figure.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • Yes on a bigger body.

Below you will find people who have taken the classic design. Click on the link to bring you to the pages. Please let me know if I have missed anyone who has taken this similar design.

World War Wendigo

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends X-force Wendigo wave Wendigo (BAF)

  • Background:
    • In an arc that saw the Amazing X-men team up with Alpha Flight, the team had to battles hundreds of Wendigo.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • This figure is absolutely needed for your Hulk, Wolverine, X-men and Alpha Flight collections. While I wouldn’t recommend it due to the price, you can also army build it to recreate the fights in that arc.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No.
