Ghost Rider (Daniel Ketch, Marvel Prime)

AKA:Danny Ketch, Dan Ketch, Ghostie, the Riding Ghost, Spirit of Vengeance, Angel Rider

With all the new characters taking over for our main heroes like Iron Man and Ms. Marvel, you be failed to learn that it’s is not the first time. Marvel has done it tons of times. Take Ghost Rider for instance. Marvel had decided to bring back the character in his own comic. However the last issue of the previous Ghost Rider series ended with Johnny Blaze separating from Zarathos thus stopped being Ghost Rider, marrying his girlfriend Roxanne and having twins. Thus, in Ghost Rider Vol 3 #1 (1990), with the team of Howard Mackie and Javier Saltares, decided that he had paid his dues and was in need of some happiness so they decided to create a brand new character.

Thus they created Dan Ketch, a young man who, while walking with his older sister, Barbara, happened upon a gang shooting. The gang noticed the pair and, not wanting witnesses, open fired upon them, hitting Barbara. Fleeing into a cemetery carrying his sister, Dan noticed a weird motorbike. After laying his hand on the bike he was transformed into a new Ghost Riders, due to the fact that he had his sister blood on his hands. He defeated the gangster and started using his powers to fight crime. Many of the common powers that Ghost Rider has been known for, like the flaming chain and penance stare, actually came from this version of Ghost Rider. It was also discovered that he was the younger brother of Johnny Blaze, whose mother took them to protect them from the Noble Kane family curse of becoming a vessal for the Ghost Rider. As years went on, he started to have blue flames to differentiate him from Johnny Blaze.

As for figures, Ghost Rider (any version) has never been a big of a character as most but he has had a few.  Because he never really changed his costume in the comics, he is one of the few characters that we have a complete set of.

Have

First Appearance

Recommend Figure: Toybiz Marvel Legends Series 3 Dan Ketch Ghost Rider

  • Background:
    • The first form he wore throughout his early career as Ghost Rider. Like many classic costumes, many artist have drawn it differently over the years.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • If you were a fan of the Dan Ketch version of Ghost Rider, then this might be the version for you. If nothing else, you should get it for the bike as there isn’t any other version of this bike out there.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • Yes. This one is very dated and needs a update. One of the Fan requested figure for the Riders line.

Spirit Of Vengeance

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Return of Marvel Legends Terrax Wave Ghost Rider

  • Background:
    • Dan had stopped being Ghost Rider for a long while but eventually reunited with Noble Kale to become the Ghost Rider again. However constantly using the Penance Stare and killing people had drove him insane. Thus during the Spirits Of Vengeance story he started hunting down and killing other hosts before his brother took him down. During this time he started having blue flames and has had those since, to show how different he is from Johnny Blaze.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • I say get this figure if you want a figure that is very different from your Johnny Blaze figure. But since he doesn’t come with a bike, it could be skipped.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No Unless they want to release him his bike again.
