Black Bolt (Blackagar Boltagon, Marvel Prime)

AKA; Celestial Messiah, Celestial Redeemer, Midnight King, BB, Wishbone

The strong silent types are a stereotype in comics but this guy takes the cake. Introduced in Fantastic Four #45 (1965) by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Black Bolt is the leader of the Kree created race of enhanced human known as the Inhumans. Most Inhumans gain their powers later in life when they are exposed to the Terrigen Mist. However, Black Bolt was different as he was exposed to the mist while still in the womb. This caused him to have powers beyond his control, including a voice that could destroy a city if he so much as whispered, and eventually had to be locked away for his safety. While in this “Silent Room”, he was visited by Medusa, who eventually came up with a body language that she could understand and the two fell in love. He was eventually released from the room and the two were eventually married.

After an amnesiac Medusa disappeared, Black Bolt and the Royal Family went in search of her. They eventually found her but this lead to the first encounter with the Fantastic Four, who would later become their lifelong allies. The two teams worked together to defeat his brother Maximus but the villain encased the Inhuman city in a dome, separating the Inhumans from the world. To save his people, Black Bolt unleashed his voice and destroyed the dome as well as most of the city. Black Bolt primary concern is his people, so he has battle many heroes and the world governments. He was one of the founding members of the Illuminati but was later replaced by a Skrull, when the team were captured by the alien race. He later took the Inhuman into the Kree Empire, where he was made the king of the Kree and lead the battle against the Shi’Ar emperor Vulcan. He was believed killed then but eventually returned to his people.

Among the Inhuman, Black Bolt has always been one of the 4 character that people knew would be coming out eventually, with Medusa and the highly requested Crystal and a BAF Lockjaw. Hasbro released a version of him in the store Exclusive Nemesis wave, with a slightly different coloured variant. Both were shit so don’t get them expect for the BAF part. Hasbro remade him for the SDCC exclusive box set (alongside his wife). However just like his wife, they re-released him in the Black Panther Okoye wave with a new paint job and a swap-able screaming head.

Classic

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends Black Panther Okoye Wave Black Bolt

  • Background:
    • The original design by Jack Kirby is not just a costume for Black Bolt. It is a suit that allow Black Bolt to control his powers and absorb electrons from the air. The tuning fork on his head also helps with this.
  •  Why you need it for your collection?:
    • If you are a fan of the Inhumans, then this is an absolute must. Fantastic four, Avenger, Illuminati and many other collections need this guy as well.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No.

Needs

Below you will find a gallery of suits that still need to be made. I have included what I think are the possibilities of the suit being made. Note that these are my personal opinions and not fact. Please let me know if I have missed anything.
