In 2015, Marvel released the epic storyline Spider-verse, which pitted almost every version of Spider-man to ever exist and some new ones. It was such a massive hit, that it came as no surprise that Marvel wanted to do it again with another character. With the relaunch of the Venom comic with Eddie Brock returning to being the one wearing the suit, they decided to do a version of that with him instead. However what made this different was instead of just being alternate versions of Peter Parker, Jessica Drew etc, they decided to turn a host of heroes and villains from alternate universes into a version of Venom. That was all great and all but what could be their enemies? Introducing the Poisons, a race of beings that could assimilate (transform) Venomized heroes and villains into a Poisons.
Introduced in Edge of Venomverse #2 (2017) by Cullen Bunn and Iban Coello, the race that would become the Poison were originally the weakness race on their planet, hunt as food by other creatures. That changed when a Venomized Dr. Strange arrive on their planet and they learnt that they could take over the Klyntar and gained the hosts powers and abilities. Dr. Strange tried to stop them with an army of Venoms but they were either killed or turned into Poisons. They were eventually led by a Poison Dr. Doom and starting travelling the multiverse absorbing more Venom. The Venom resistance, led by Marvel Prime’s Venom, fought back against them eventually having to summon a version of Carnage. They destroyed their base but Poison Thanos and his followers went to Marvel Prime but was defeated.
The Poisons are a extremely new race of characters. The likelihood of us getting any more then the one in the Venom wave is slim at best. Hell, the only reason we are getting that version is because of who is really is which you can see below.
Made:
Spider-man
Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends Venom Monster Venom Wave – Poison
- Background:
- This is a version of Spider-man that had the symbiote return to him after Eddie Brock. (I wonder if he is the same one in the Spider-verse). He was eventually turned into a Poisin and became a main treat to the main Venom.
- Why you need it for your collection?:
- When this was reveal most people were “Who is this?”. Mostly because they hadn’t read the story yet so many people might not want this. It’s a great figure though and would work nicely with your Venom-verse display.
- Does it need a remake?:
- No.
