Taskmaster (Tony Masters, Marvel Prime)

Ever wondered how all the villains seem to get henchmen to work for them. Yeah, this guys is the reason. Introduced in Avengers #195 (1980) by David Michelinie and George Pérez, he was created as a way to explain where all the henchmen, the likes of Doc Ock has, comes from and how they seemed so well trained (according to his creator). Tony Master was a SHIELD agent who was sent on a mission for a Nazi’s Super-Soldier serum where he gained the ability of photographic reflexes, where he can copy the strength and abilities of anyone he see’s (not the powers). However this cause to forget his past. Working as a merc for a while, he eventually used his gift to set up a network of schools where he trained soldiers with his abilities. After they graduated, he would hire them out to anyone with the money.

Hidden from view for years, he first encountered the Avengers, when he captured Yellowjacket (Pym), Wasp and Ant-man (Lang). He held his own against the team solo (which was something since the team consist of the likes of Cap, Beast, Hawkeye and Wonder Man) but escaped. He has since been a torn in the Avengers side as they kept taking down his schools. He would also go onto train many villains, like Crossbones, and even heroes. He has also worked alongside many heroes, including Deadpool and was even part of SHIELD’s Secret Avengers.

Taskmaster has always been a popular character and as such has had a few figures over the years. Toybiz released a classic one in the infamous Legendary Riders series of ML. Hasbro did release one in the Captain America: Civil War Red Onslaught wave however this was based on the Ultimate Spider-man cartoon, but came with the Udon head, which works really well. They are also releasing a new Classic version in the Avengers:Infinity War wave.

Haves:

Classic

01

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends Avengers:Infinity War Thanos Wave Taskmaster

  • Background:
    • Taskmaster, like most popular villains, is one that has rarely changed his costume, which has been drawn differently by many artists. Bit of Trivia, his mask actually is a mask inspired by Santa Muerte, Saint Death “The Lady of Shadows”.
  •  Why you need it for your collection?:
    • There is 2 version of this, one from TB and one from Hasbro. While the TB one is has one extra accessory (the billy club) and an air-flyer, the newer Hasbro one is just a better looking figure. Needed for any Avengers villains collecting and even most heroes, like Spider-man, Cap, Daredevil and of course Deadpool.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No.

Udon’s Solo Series

02

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends Captain America: Civil War Red Onslaught Wave “Mercenaries of Mayhem” Taskmaster (Swappable head)

  • Background:
    • When the artist Udon came on board to Marvel, one of the series he did was a Taskmaster solo series. During his run of this, Agent X and Deadpool, he redesigned Taskmaster costume the now Fan Favourite deisgn shown above.
  •  Why you need it for your collection?:
    • While the figure is not 100% exactly like it was in the comic (mostly cause the body is based on the Ultimate Spider-man cartoon) it is very close to the design used in the comic. If you got the 2-pack Deadpool, this would be great to have to stand beside it.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No but wouldn’t mind if they redid it into a more accurate version.
