Spider-woman (Jessica Drew, Marvel Prime)

Marvel one day said “Nuh-Uh DC. You ain’t getting the female version of our most popular character.” Introduced in Marvel Spotlight #32 by Archie Goodwin and Jim Mooney, the first Spider-woman was actually an attempt to prevent DC from owning the rights to the name Spider-woman. DC had planned for the character to be introduced in their Tarzan/Batman Adventure Hour so Marvel rushed quickly to get the character out to secure the right to the name. Because of that, they originally used the origin planned for Wolverine (that he was an actually wolverine evolved into a human) but that was eventually retconned out of existence.

She was originally introduced as an assassin sent to kill Nick Fury, because Hydra had trick her into thinking they had kidnapped her boyfriend, who was actually a Hydra agent. However, Fury convinced her to switch sides but she escaped and tried to live a new life. She then went onto to have her own solo series. At the end of that series, she lost her powers where she felled into obscurity for a while especially when the other Spider-women came about. She went to live in Madripoor, where she would team up with Wolverine, who was going by Patch at the time. She was next seen when she was attacked by the fourth (or was it third?) Spider-woman. Along Madame Web, she began training Mattie Franklin as Spider-woman. It was believe around this time that she was kidnapped by Skrulls and replaced with one. The Skrull then joined the New Avengers which relaunched her fandom. She was eventually rescued in Secret Invasion, where she joined the Avengers but left after the Spider-verse. Some point after the Secret Wars, she became a mother.

Being a extremely popular character since her “re-introduction” in New Avengers, Spider-woman has had quite a few figures over the years. At the height of her new popularity, Toybiz made on in their last series of ML (alongside with a Julia Carpenter variant, which still needs to be remade). When Hasbro relaunched the line into the Infinity line they released one in the Avengers Age of Ultron wave and a more modern one in their Spider-man line.

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends Avengers: Age of Ultron Thanos Wave Spider-woman

  • Background:
    • Right after she escaped from Hydra and Nick Fury, she went into hiding. After saving someone, she decided to become a hero. She dyed her hair back to black and opened up the upper part of the mask to show her hair. This is the costume she wore for most of her career.
  •  Why you need it for your collection?:
    • This is a figure that most collections must have in their collections. Spider-man and Spider-verse need this as well as Avengers fans. Wolverine, Daredevil and X-men fans also need this as they have teamed up quite a few times.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No. Maybe release her with a First Appearance swapable head.

Post-Spider-Verse / All-New, All-Different

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends Spider-man Lizard Wave Spider-woman

  • Background:
    • After the Spider-verse, Jess decided she needed a break. She quit the Avengers and decided to returned to be a detective. She basically got rid of the costume and instead wore a Spider themed jacket. This is the costume she wore when she was pregnant.
  •  Why you need it for your collection?:
    • If your a fan of Spider-woman then this is a must. It is also needed for the Spider-women team alongside Silk and Spider-Gwen. Spider-man fans might also like it.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No. Just about to be release.

Below is a gallery of costumes that still need to be made. Click on the image to see chances of it being made. Please note that this is my personal opinion and not fact. If I missed anything, please let me know in the comments below.
