Red Skull (Johann Shmidt, Marvel Prime)

Some people just can’t believe their side has lost. Created by Jack Kirby and Joe Simon in Captain America Comics #7 (1941, the earlier Skull were impostors), Johann Shmidt was a bellboy who was serving Hitler’s room when Hitler, arguing with his officers, took the young man under his wings and transformed Johann into the perfect Nazi soldier. When Captain America was revealed, Hitler gave Johann a red skull like mask as an opposite to Cap. Skull use other people to help carry out his mission (thus the earlier impostors) but eventually took matters into his own hands and battled Cap.

After the war, Skull body was frozen and buried for decades (to which a new commie Skull took over), until he was revived later and restarted his battle with Cap. He eventually was eventually killed only to be revive in a clone body of Cap. But during a battle with Cap, he had a deadly gas turn his face into what it is today. Much later he was killed by Winter Soldier but had his mind transferred to Aleksander Lukin where he was eventually killed again. He has recently been revived into a clone body and acquired Prof X psychic powers.

As for toys, for a guy who is essentially a Nazi, he has gotten quite a few figures over the years. The main reason for this is that he is Cap’s arch-foe. Thankfully (expect for maybe one) alot of his figure have nothing to do with his old group but instead with a villain’s costume.

Military Uniform

Recommend Figure: Toybiz Marvel Legends Series 5 Red Skull

  • Background:
    • This is the uniform that Skull wear when he is representing the Nazi. It’s the closest we are ever going to get to a Nazi uniform.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • Unless you have to have a military Skull, then this figure can be skip. It has very little articulation and is extremely hard to find.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • Yes and No. It would be nice if Hasbro make a version of this but given the nature of the outfit  I wouldn’t mind if they skip it.

Stolen SHIELD Armor?

Recommend Figure: Toybiz Marvel Legends Face-Off Series 1 Red Skull (2-pack with Captain America)

  • Background:
    • Skull had gain godlike powers and had taken away Cap’s Super-soldier formula causing him to age rapidly. Skull wore this armor, which he was stolen from SHIELD.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • I would say only get this if you can get it MIB as it comes with a fantastic Captain America. Other then that it can be skipped.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No, unessential.

Modern Terrorist

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends Winter Soldier Mandroid Wave “Agents Of Hydra” Red Skull

  • Background:
    • After being in the comics for decade, Skull started wearing a more modern outfit that still has the look of a military man.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • This is the figure I recommend getting if you want a regular Red Skull figure. While not the greatest figure using a older sculpt, it does work for a better Skull that has been made yet.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • Yes one a better sculpt.

Arnim Zola Body

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Return of Marvel Legends Arnim Zola Wave Arnim Zola Swappable Red Skull part

  • Background:
    • When Skull was trapped in Lukin’s body, he had Arnim Zola work on trying to insert his mind into Cap’s and Sharon Carters baby. However, the child was killed in the womb by his daughter Sin. Lukin was eventually killed along with Skull. However Arnim Zola instead had Red Skull’s mind transfer to one of his body, to which Red Skull
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • Unless you have a bit of money and are willing to buy the parts separately or get the figure again, then I say skip it as it is the wrong color anyway.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No. Not needed.

Red Onslaught

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends Civil War Red Onslaught Wave Re Onslaught (BAF)

  • Background:
    • After Professor X death, Red Skull, a new clone of himself, took his dead body and transferred his brain and powers into his body. After a run in with the Uncanny Avengers, he set up an interment camp for mutants where he tortured them. The Avengers eventually raided the camp and Magneto tried to kill the Skull by crushing him under debris but this cause the Onslaught persona to combine with Skull to create the Red Onslaught. His defeat eventually led to the Axis story line.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • Let be honest. the main reason you are getting this figure is to use with the Onslaught head from the X-men Juggernaut wave. However if you want to recreate that storyline, then you could use this figure. If you are not a X-men fan, then this can be skipped.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No. Just came out.

Below is a gallery of costumes that still need to be made. Click on the image to see chances of it being made. Please note that this is my personal opinion and not fact.
