Thor (Thor Odinson, Marvel Prime)

AKA: Donar (Old Dutch name), Thunaer, God of Thunder, Thorr, the Thunderer, Son of Gaea, Son of Earth, the Scion of all Asgard, the Golden Avenger, the Lightning-Giver, Donald M. Blake, Sigurd Jarlson, Jake Olson, Arkin Torsen, Arthur, Hammer-Thrower, Lightning-Caller, Storm-God, Vingthor the Hurler, Longbeard’s Son, Hrodr’s foeman, Veur, unhappy Hrungnir’s playmate, Hloriddi, Jormungand’s Fear, “No-Name”, Siegfried, Siegmund

Stan Lee, Larry Leiber and Jack Kirby had just created the strongest man alive with the Hulk. They then decided to up the anti by creating someone more powerful. But who could be stronger then the strongest mortal? What about a god? Since the Greek Gods had been done to death, Stan used gods from Norse Mythology instead. Thus he used the greatest champion in Norse Mythology Thor for his newest character.

Thor was an arrogant young god who broke a peace deal between the Asgard and another race. To punish him, Odin sent him to Earth without any memories in the mortal form of limp Donald Blake. Years later while on vacation, Donald was attacked by an Rock like alien. He escaped and found a cane in a cave. When he struck a rock he was transformed into the Mighty Thor.

As for toys, despite being one of the major characters in the Marvel Universe, he really hasn’t gotten the amount of figures you would think. Hopefully the upcoming Thor waves will change that.

God Butcher Arc’s Young Thor

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends Thor: Ragnarok wave Odinson

  • Background:
    • In story line that involved Thor battle Gor the God Butcher, we got to see 3 versions of Thor, from past, present and future. In the past, the story tells how a young arrogant Thor, before the wield Mjolnir, has tracked down Gor because he had killed off another pantheon of gods. They battle in a cave where Thor was captured and dragged into the future where he met his great granddaughters as well as a present day Thor and King Thor. Together they defeated the God Butcher and stopped him from killing all of the gods in the universe. The young Thor went back in time and forced himself to forget the event. It was also seen when battle Apocalypse in the past.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • Alongside Marvel Now Thor and the King Thor BAF, we now have the three Thor from that storyline. However unless Hasbro decides to release Gor, then it might not be worth getting this but it’s a most have for Thor fans.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • Just getting released so no.

Recommend Figure: Toybiz Marvel Legends Series 3 Thor

  • Background:
    • The costume that Thor has worn the longest and the one to which most of the modern versions are based one. He has worn it for most of his career even long after he separated from Donald Blake and other hosts.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • There has been 2 version of this but the Giant-man series one is a bit too small for this, so I recommend getting the series 3 one just for the build. However………..
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • There is a rumour that this version of Thor will be getting made again thank to teaser images from SDCC so I would say wait if that turns out to be true.

Lord of Asgard

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends Blob Wave Thor, Lord of Asgard

  • Background:
    • After Odin had been killed in a massive battle, Thor assume his role as the Lord of Asgard, gaining the Odin Force in the process. The massive power he gain cause him to make some bad decisions like moving Asgard to hover above New York and inferring with a civil war which lead to him fighting Iron Man and Captain America. He was eventually killed in Ragnarok.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • I say only get this if you have the Thor Buster Iron Man. Otherwise it can be skipped.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No. While the figure itself is not the greatest, the storyline is now dated and doesn’t need another figure.

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Return Of Marvel Legends Terrax Wave Thor

  • Background:
    • After Ragnarok and Civil War, Thor returned to the Marvel universe been dead for a while. One of the first things he did was moved Asgard to Oklahoma. He then went about searching for the rest of the Asgardians and returning them home.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • This is one of the better Thor figure out there if not the best. It should really be added to your collection if you need one Thor for it.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No. The one we got was perfect.

Marvel Now

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends Odin Wave Marvel Now Thor

  • Background:
    • This is the costume Thor wore during the company re-branding and what he wore during the Uncanny Avengers.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • If you want to complete the Uncanny Avengers then this one is need.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No. The one we got was perfect.

Recommend Figure: Hasbro SDCC Exclusive Marvel Legends Battle for Asgard Box set Odinson

  • Background:
    • During the Original Sin arc, Thor was told he was unworthy to wield Mjolnir, which would eventually lead to the female Thor. During this time a Roxxon facility was attacked and Thor went to help the people only to have his arm bitten off. He had a metal arm grafted to it and after meeting the female Thor, he gave up the name Thor instead choosing just to be called Odinson.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • It is the latest version of Thor at the moment and it would look nice to have standing beside the female Thor. At the moment the SDCC is the only one at the moment, so it might be a bit expensive at the moment.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No. The one we are getting it perfect.

Below is a gallery of costumes that still need to be made. Click on the image to see chances of it being made. Please note that this is my personal opinion and not fact.
